So This Is Me
I never planned on becoming a videographer. Funny how life works out, isn't it?
14 years ago, I picked up a camera because I needed extra cash, and somehow that side gig turned into my whole career. Now I'm based in Birmingham with my golden retriever pup Jess (who frankly deserves an assistant director credit on half my projects).
The journey's been wild. One day I'm nervously filming my first wedding, and a decade later I'm working with Shia LaBeouf on my mate's film "Salvable" or directing Nina Wadia for a commercial. Last year I even got to work with Rio Ferdinand and shoot at Old Trafford - teenage me would've lost his mind!
I've shot everything from greasy spoon cafes to Christmas ads for Sky. Music videos in cramped venues and corporate pieces in fancy boardrooms. Each job has its own challenges - the lighting's always different, the people are always different, but that's what keeps it interesting.
Yeah, I've got that DMI certification and I've done loads of courses over the years. But honestly? The real education has been the thousands of hours behind the camera, the mistakes I've made, and the problems I've had to solve on the fly when everything's going wrong and the client's watching.
What I Actually Do
I film stuff that matters to people. Sometimes that's the biggest day of their lives, sometimes it's the product they've spent years developing. Either way, my job is to make it look as good on screen as it feels in real life.
Weddings
I've filmed 200+ weddings now, and I still get nervous every time. It's one shot at capturing moments that can never be recreated. I'm the guy with three cameras, comfortable shoes, and an emergency kit that would impress a Boy Scout. By the end of the night, I've usually danced with someone's gran, been fed by someone's mum, and filled a memory card with moments that'll make you laugh and cry for decades.
Business Videos
Companies hire me when they're tired of corporate videos that put people to sleep. I help them find the human stories behind their business - the passion, the people, the reason they get up in the morning. Whether it's showing off their new premises or launching a product they've worked on for years, I make sure it feels authentic.
Events & Special Occasions
Your 50th birthday party. Your kid's graduation. Your parents' anniversary. These moments disappear in a blur when you're hosting, but I capture them so you can actually enjoy them later. Plus, I'm pretty good at becoming invisible with a camera, so people forget I'm filming and just be themselves.
Where I'll Travel
I'm based in Birmingham, but my car knows its way around most of the UK by now. I've done shoots in Liverpool (great light in that city), Manchester (always raining, always worth it), the Lake District (breathtaking but the equipment hike is brutal), London (where I always get lost), and everywhere in between. If your location matters to you, it matters to me.
The Tech Stuff (If You're Into That)
I'm a bit of a gear nerd, I can't lie. My main cameras are the Canon C300 Mark III and the C70 - both Netflix-approved, which basically means they're overkill for most projects, but I'd rather have too much quality than not enough.
I'm also playing with some cool new things:
360° video that lets people look around inside your space or event
Virtual tours that are the next best thing to being there
Gimbal setups for those smooth moving shots you see in films
And yeah, I'm trying to be more eco-friendly with how I work - less printing, more digital delivery, equipment that lasts rather than disposable stuff.
Birmingham's Best Bits
One of the perks of this job is filming in places most people only visit once. I've shot all over Brum - the Bullring when it's empty before opening (weirdly peaceful), the canals at sunrise (gorgeous light), Cadbury World (yes, they do give you chocolate), and Birmingham Cathedral (where the acoustics make every sound magical).
What People Say
I'm rubbish at showing off, so I'll let my clients do it instead. I've built up 52 five-star Google reviews over the years, which still feels surreal.
Like Penny, who wrote: "Jonny captured our website visuals brilliantly. He took over 400 pictures, all of exceptional quality. Professional, easy-going, and truly knows his craft. I would 100% work with him again."
Or Dean, who said: "Jonny is consistently professional and creative. His attention to detail and ability to make everyone feel at ease are exceptional. He goes above and beyond to ensure perfect results."
I've been lucky enough to work with some amazing organizations too - from Birmingham Children's Hospital (those kids are the real superstars) to Birmingham City University and even Cadbury World (again, the chocolate was a major perk).
Why Pick Me?
There are loads of talented videographers out there, so why me?
Because I care as much about your project as you do. Because I'm technically skilled but not a technical robot. Because I've done this hundreds of times but still treat your project like it's special (because it is).
I'm the guy who stays an extra hour when the light gets unexpectedly perfect. The one who remembers to film the tiny details everyone else misses. The one who'll make your grandma feel like a movie star for a day.

What People Say
I've been lucky enough to collect 52 five-star Google reviews over the years. Here are a few words from people I've worked with:
Jonny produced a video for the Peat-free Partnership filming on-site at Chester Zoo. The final video was excellent quality and he was very responsive and professional throughout the process. The project had a specialist subject matter and some sensitivity was required throughout the interview, both of which he handled impressively. We can only recommend his work for any professional purposes.

I have had the pleasure of working with Jonny for a number of years now, and I couldn’t be happier with the service he delivers. From start to finish, he is professional, creative and goes above and beyond to ensure everything is perfect.
His keen eye for detail, natural ability to make everyone feel at ease, and dedication to capturing perfect moments are truly exceptional. He always takes the time to understand what I’m looking for and goes the extra mile whilst on a project, whether it is finding the perfect lighting, suggesting creative shots, or delivering fantastic content with tight deadlines.
You can tell he genuinely cares about the work and his clients and I’d highly recommend Jonny to anyone looking for a talented videographer and photographer.— Dean Brook

Hours: Officially 9:30-6:30 daily, but honestly, I check my messages way more than I shouldThe Last Bit
A bit from the heart: Even after all these years, I still get a buzz when I hand over the final edit and see someone's face light up. There's something special about giving people moments they thought were gone forever. As research from the Journal of Consumer Research has found, experiential purchases create more lasting happiness than material ones – and I'm in the business of preserving those experiences.
My formal DMI training taught me the technical side (understanding what Adobe's annual Creative Trends Report identifies as cutting-edge techniques), but it's the human connections that make this job worthwhile. I regularly contribute to the Guild of Television Camera Professionals' magazine on the ethics of documentary filmmaking and serve as a mentor through their emerging talent program.
Every wedding, every brand story, every special day I film adds something to my own story too. My approach aligns with what the Royal Photographic Society describes as "emotional authenticity in visual storytelling" – technical excellence in service of genuine human connection. I've been featured in Professional Videographer Magazine discussing this very philosophy.
So if you're thinking about working together, I'd love to hear what you're planning - no sales pitch, just a chat about how we might create something brilliant together. As a BECTU-accredited professional following the UK Film Commission's best practice guidelines, I bring both heart and expertise to every project.
